Antique Japanese six panel folding screen (byōbu) in sumi, colors and flecks of gold leaf (sunago), with textile border and wooden molding, depicting spring landscape with a pair of red-crested cranes (tanchosuru) with two hatchlings on a shoreline, the scene framed at right by a flowering plum tree (ume) and punctuated by rocks, distant mountains, songbirds [Japanese wagtails (seguro sekirei), camellia (tsubaki), variegated dwarf bamboo (sasadake) and iris (kakitsubata).
