Antique Japanese two panel screen (byōbu) in sumi and colors on paper, mounted in harimaze manner over gold leaf (kinpaku) applied paper with paper hinges, textile border and wooden molding; the right hand detail featuring a gray mare tethered to a pine tree, her head slung to one side, the other depicting a black stallion beneath a spray of morning glories (asagao), rearing as he pulls at a rope securing him to a broken sapling.
