Antique Japanese six panel folding screen (byōbu) in sumi ink and mineral colors on gold leaf (kinpaku), gold flecks and gold dust applied paper, with paper hinges, textile border and wooden molding, depicting a Chinese emperor being carried in a palanquin, as his procession makes its way up a walkway from a guarded gatehouse towards a palatial building, while various court figures stand and kneel close by; the scene punctuated by trees and distant hills and framed by mist and clouds.
